Lupina Centre Hosts Seminar on Pursuing Happiness

The Lupina Centre for Spirituality, Healthcare and Ethics at Regis College are pleased to host a Graduate Seminar on November 5, 2009.  Professor Sidney Callahan, PhD., Senior Fellow, Center for the Study of Law and Religion, Emory University will present a lecture entitled "Pursuing Happiness:  Why? How?".  Professor Joseph Schner, S.J. and Professor Mary Jo Leddy of Regis College will offer a response.  The Graduate Seminar will be held at Regis College in Classroom C, Christie Wing at 100 Wellesley Street West, Toronto from 2:10pm-3:45pm.  A copy of the paper is available on-line at

Sidney Callahan, Ph.D., is an author, syndicated columnist, professor, and licensed psychologist. She received her B.A. in English from Bryn Mawr College, and a Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology from City University of New York.  A tenured faculty member at Mercy College from 1980-1997, she has also held visiting faculty appointments/fellowships at Boston College, College of New Rochelle, Emory University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, St. John’s University, and the University of Denver.  A columnist for many years, most notably at Commonweal magazine, Callahan has lectured and led workshops at more than 300 colleges and institutions across the United States.  Among her many books are Creating New Life, Nurturing Families: A Woman’s perspective (Cincinnati, OH: St. Anthony Messenger Press, 2009); Created for Joy: A Christian View of Suffering (New York: Crossroads, 2007);  Women Who Hear Voices: The Challenge of Religious Experience (Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2003);  In Good Conscience: Reason and Emotion in Moral Decision Making (San Francisco: Harper San Francisco, 1991); and With All Our Heart and Mind: The Spiritual Works of Mercy in A Psychological Age (New York: Crossroads/Continuum, 1988 [Winner of Christopher Award, 1988]).  She is currently writing a book on happiness.
