Regis College is the Jesuit Faculty of Theology at the University of Toronto, one of North America's Roman Catholic ecclesiastical faculties.
Inspired by the charism of St. Ignatius of Loyola and faithful to the Roman Catholic tradition, Regis serves women and men called to minister to people of many faiths and cultures.
Our community seeks:
Central to our mission is the affirmation of our Jesuit/Ignatian heritage as we continue to form candidates coming to us in preparation for ordination. As well, we are a College rooted firmly in the Roman Catholic tradition and serving the Catholic community.
Our context is increasingly global, ecumenical and interfaith. Regis College is dedicated to the preparation of people for ministry in the Roman Catholic and other Christian communities; such ministry will take diverse forms as we seek to meet the challenge of creative new ministries.
Regis College is committed to a spirituality which integrates the whole person. Spirituality suffuses our teaching, learning and research; it is essential to our ministerial formation and provides as well a critical service which we render to the ecumenical community at T.S.T. and to the University of Toronto, focusing attention on the spiritual dimension of Christian life.
We commit ourselves to this value which flows directly from the mission entrusted to us by the Society of Jesus. Recognition of the intrinsic link between faith and "doing justice" is central to an Ignatian way of living.
The call to facilitate a critical dialogue flows from the realisation that we must prepare for ministry in this new world in which globalisation is no longer simply an interesting theory; we meet this global reality on our doorstep and in our halls.
Academic excellence is our heritage, born of the tradition of the Ratio Studiorum, the Jesuit vision of education now more than 400 years old. If we have placed it last in our list of values, it is only because it is familiar to us and a ready point of reflection.
The Crest of Regis College recalls the original seal of the Jesuit Order with its stylized Greek monogram of The Holy Name of Jesus augmented by a golden Crown of Christ the King. The boughs of maple leaves and academic palms stand for the ideal of academic excellence in Canada.
