Regis College Appoints New Academic Dean
Toronto, April 30, 2014 – The Board of Governors of Regis College is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Scott Lewis SJ as Dean of Regis College, the Jesuit Faculty in The Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto. Fr. Lewis begins his five-year term as Dean on May 1, 2014.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Scott Lewis served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1973 and the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1974 to 1976. He was an analyst of electronic intelligence data and served as a technical advisor to the Japanese Navy (1969 – 1972).
Professor Lewis brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the work of leading the Regis faculty in its programs, teaching, research and academic outreach. For ten years he has been an Associate Professor of New Testament studies at Regis College, and is a frequent lecturer in the very popular Windows on Theology program. He worked and taught in Jerusalem before coming to Regis College.
Fr. Lewis SJ entered the Society of Jesus in 1979 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1987. He holds a Masters Degree in History from the Catholic University of America, a Master of Divinity from the Weston School of Theology in Cambridge Mass., a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Regis College and a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He received his Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome.
While a member of the Regis faculty, Professor Lewis also served as Director of Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre in Pickering Ontario. Before coming to Toronto he held administrative positions at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Jerusalem and the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome. For more than ten years, his weekly reflection, ‘God’s Word on Sunday’, has been published in The Catholic Register.
Regis College is the Jesuit Faculty of Theology at the University of Toronto (UofT) and is one North America's Roman Catholic ecclesiastical faculties. Regis is also one of seven founding members of the Toronto School of Theology (TST).
