It is with great pleasure that Regis college would like to announce that Dr. Gregory Baum will be launching his new book, Truth and Relevance: Catholic Theology in French Quebec Since the Quiet Revolution, at Regis College. The launch will take place on Wednesday April 30th, at 4:30pm - 6:30pm.
Weaving together theological and sociological reflections, Truth and Relevance is a fascinating account of modernity, secularism, and the evolution of the Catholic Church in Quebec since the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). Baum unfolds for an anglophone readership how theologians in Quebec since the 1960s uncovered the social meaning in the Christian message and engaged the vital, new self-understanding of Quebec with a basic sympathy & solidarity. Nationalism, gender equality, critique of an unregulated market system and engagement with the positive and negative features of modern society feature in this lively portrayal of the Church in active dialogue with society.
This book launch is a cooperative effort on the part of McGill-Queen's Press and Regis College, the Jesuit Faculty in the Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto.
Regis College is the Jesuit School of Theology at the University of Toronto and a Founding Member of the Toronto School of Theology.
