Cardinal Cassidy to Receive Honory Doctorate at 2005 Convocation

His Eminence Edward Idris Cardinal Cassidy will receive a honorary Doctor of Divinity at Regis College's 2005 convocation. The students, faculty and governors of the College recognize Cardinal Cassidy's service to the Church and international faith communities as a diplomat, ecumenist and bishop. After serving as a parish priest in Australia and studying Canon Law at the Lateran University in Rome, Cardinal Cassidy joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1955, serving in Bangladesh, Lesotho, South Africa and the Netherlands. In 1988 he was named by Pope John Paul II as Substitute of the Secretariat of State and then President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. He is currently the Cardinal-Priest of Santa Maria in Via Lata.
