Michael Paul Gallagher, S.J. Delivers the 2012 Chancellor's Lecture


Michael Paul Gallagher, S.J., will present the 2012 Chancellor’s Lecture at Regis College on Friday, November 23 at 7:30 pm in St. Joseph’s Chapel.

Fr. Gallagher will speak on "Enlarging the Tent: New Horizons in Fundamental Theology."

Fr. Gallagher is a professor of fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he served as dean of the faculty of theology from 2005-2008. His primary research interest is examinations of “faith and unbelief, culture and spirituality.” He has taught courses in “unbelief and culture, seminars on Newman, Bernard Lonergan, the relationship between theology and imagination, and the history of thinking on the act of faith.” He is the author of several books including Faith Maps: Ten Religious Explorers from Newman to Ratzinger (2010), Clashing Symbols: An Introduction to Faith and Culture (2004), and Help my Unbelief (1983).

Fr. Gallagher studied literature at University College Dublin, Caen University, and Oxford. He received his doctorate in theology from Queen’s University, Belfast.  He lectured in modern English and American literature at University College Dublin from 1972-1990. He later moved to Rome, and worked on the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers and the Pontifical Council for Culture. He served as dean of the faculty of theology at the Gregorian from 2005-2008. He currently serves as Rector of the Collegio Bellarmino in Rome, a Jesuit community for post-graduate students.

Public parking is available in the University of St. Michael's College parking lot on St. Joseph Street, one block north of Regis College. The venue is accessible.
